INTRODUCTION TO CLOWN

In the words of Lecoq; "We are all clowns: We think we are beautiful, strong and clever, whereas we all have our weaknesses, our ridiculous side, which can make people laugh when we allow it to express itself."

Clown is an essential tool for any performer. It lets us experience a pure form of being, vulnerability and a fearlessness to be in front of an audience in all our glory and failures! The red nose is in the pursuit of fun and this workshop will allow you to experience all of this to uncover your glorious and ridiculous side!

What to expect:

  • Detailed movement analysis.

  • How to achieve the state of play.

  • Introduction to the red nose.

  • Working with objects and costume.

  • Devising clown material.

DRAWING MOVEMENT

Movement is life, emotion and expression. Throughout the ages, great artists have been inspired by movement as they find ways to transpose the essence of it onto a blank canvas, pot or page.

Drawing & Movement invites visual artists to draw from life and different stimuli as a way to identify and explore movement in their work. These sessions will break down the principles of movement and encourage experimentation as a means to discover the nuance, texture, emotive and storytelling potential different qualities of movement can offer. Drawing Movement promises to be a visceral and immersive creative experience. This class is suitable for the experienced artist and those with little to no experience drawing. Bring you individual practice to the work.

What to expect:

  • Drawing from life and other stimuli.

  • Still and movement poses from the model.

  • Techniques to explore your materials in a variety of ways to capture different qualities of movement.

  • Provocations to challenge habitual drawing methods.

  • The tutor can offer guidance or allow the artist to work independently depending on preference.

Duration: 2h

Next Session: Stay tuned for next sessions or book a session at your studio today.

Kelly Vee

Actor, Pole Dancer, Performer

"I have had the pleasure of working with Steph as a private Movement Coach for my work as a Dancer/Actor in Olivier Nominated Theodora Royal Opera House, Movement Director and Professional Pole Dance Competitions across the UK. Steph brought incredible quality to the work and made me feel very confident in performing on stage under some quite demanding high-profile performances. I continue to use a lot of Steph's practices she has taught me when acting and dancing. I have observed Steph direct performers across various disciplines (Theatre, Dance, Modelling, Circus, Burlesque) and see how with clear delivery and well-developed practices she takes work to new heights."

Brittany Gallasch

Movement Intern

"During my time interning at Fourth Monkey, Steph was an incredible host and mentor to me. She welcomed me to the school with open arms and was willing to share many invaluable lessons she has learnt over her career as a movement teacher, practitioner and director. I was immediately impressed with her eye detail and how she can draw the best out of the people she works with. Steph has really inspired me to follow my interests, deepen my physical skills and take my career into my own hands."

Tiia-Mari Mäkinen
